Colonial Imports: The Yolk Review

The Yolk Review is the 4th release in the ongoing Colonial Imports series. In this issue, contributors are asked: What does it mean to review a space/place/food object? Who are reviews for and what are their intentions? Reviews can be deep-dives into little known things, they can express strong opinions and be persuasive. They can also share a narrative, turning a bad or strange experience into something funny and compelling. What makes a moment worth reconsidering and then having that be shared with others?

Reviews can state authority, pull apart assumptions and appropriations, or act as an endorsement. Done by “professional critics” or by online users, food reviews can reinforce power dynamics and reveal cultural differences. What is the value of a review? How can the form become weird/strange or appear in unexpected places?

In this publication, there are reviews of real restaurants, recipes, food related objects and experiences, and even reviews of reviews. – ✨
